(SUGAR LAND, Texas) - The Sugar Land Skeeters opened their first-ever series against the Las Vegas Aviators with a 3-1-win Thursday night at Constellation Field.

Right-handers Hunter Brown and Shawn Dubin combined to allow just one run and struck out 11 batters to shut down Las Vegas in the first meeting between the two franchises. Brown, rated as the Astros' No. 3 prospect by MLB.com, got the start and allowed a run on four hits, while striking out six, to move to 4-0 since his promotion to the Skeeters. Dubin struck out five through three scoreless frames to lock down his first save of the year.

After Carlos Perez put Las Vegas on the board in the top of the second with a solo home run, the Skeeters countered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. Alex De Goti opened the scoring with an RBI double and Yadiel Rivera drove in De Goti with an RBI single. Rivera, who was activated from the 7-Day Injured List on Wednesday, was making his first appearance since May 28. De Goti drove in Ronnie Dawson with his RBI double, and Dawson finished the night 3-for-5.

The Skeeters padded their lead on a sacrifice fly from JJ Matijevic in the fifth inning. Matijevic has driven in 11 runs over his last six games.

Marwin Gonzalez made his Skeeters debut Thursday, starting in left field and moving to third base in the sixth inning. Gonzalez, who signed a minor league deal with the Houston Astros on Aug. 27, finished the night 1-for-4.

Right-hander JP France will take the mound for the Skeeters at 7:05 p.m. on Friday at Constellation Field, with Las Vegas starting right-hander Brian Howard.

Tickets for the rest of the Skeeters' 2021 regular season - including the Triple A Final Stretch - are on sale and can be purchased by visiting sugarlandskeeters.com/tickets.
