Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

After getting rained out on Tuesday, the Skeeters played a double-header on Wednesday Night, both seven inning contests and swept the Bridgeport Bluefish winning game one 6-3 and game two 7-3. In Game 1, Sugar Land took a 6-0 lead, scoring two in the second, three in the fifth and one in the sixth, as Aaron Bates drove in two and Travis Scott, Jeff Dominguez and Adam Godwin all drove in a run a piece. In the last of the seventh Bridgeport rallied scoring three times, but fell short as Sugar Land took game one. Gilbert De La Vara was brilliant in the win throwing five shutout innings.

In Game 2, the Skeeters took an early 3-0 lead after three innings, as Greg Aquino made his first start of the year and blanked Bridgeport for three innings and the Skeeters looked like they would cruise to victory. The Bluefish had other plans though, scoring three of their own in the fifth to tie the game at 3-3. In the top of the seventh the Skeeters loaded the bases with nobody out and Jeff Dominguez hit just the second Skeeters grand slam of the year, to propel Sugar Land to a 7-3 win. The double-header sweep gives Sugar Land a 3 1/2 game lead now with 12 to play for the first half playoff birth.
