Logan Kensing Makes it Back to the Big Leagues

Bridgeport, Conn. - Logan Kensing, a member of the 2011 Bridgeport Bluefish, was called up to the Major Leagues Sunday by the Colorado Rockies.

"Logan was an important part of our ball club in 2011," said Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. "We are thrilled that he earned himself a chance to be back in the Majors."

Kensing appeared in 19 games and posted a 2.57 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched for Triple-A Colorado Springs this season at the time of his call-up. He played in nine games with Bridgeport in 2011, compiling a 1.59 ERA and 16 punchouts over the course of 11.1 innings of work before he had his contract purchased midseason by the New York Yankees organization. The hurler then appeared in 21 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre of the International League and went 1-1 with a 4.28 ERA. Last year with the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league affiliates, he posted a 3-1 record with a 3.97 ERA in 27 contests.

The 30-year-old made the jump to the Big Leagues in 2004 with the Marlins, in just his second season of professional baseball. The reliever has appeared in 134 Major League games with the Marlins and Nationals. With Florida in 2008, he averaged a strikeout per inning out of the ‘pen, with MLB personal bests of 55 strikeouts and 55.1 innings pitched, and also finished with a 3-1 record and a 4.23 ERA. Kensing owns an 8-9 career Major League record with a 5.81 ERA and 143 strikeouts in 134 appearances.

Logan is the fifth former ‘Fish to make it back to the Big Leagues. Brady Raggio was the first to make it back to The Show, pitching for the Diamondbacks in 2003 after starting the season in Bridgeport. Jose Offerman followed by appearing with the Twins, Phillies, and Mets after spending 2003 in the Park City. Jason Simontacchi was next after he spent time with the Nationals in 2007 following a 2006 season with the Bluefish. Wily Mo Pena was the last when he joined the Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners in 2011, following a stint with the ‘Fish in 2010.
