Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

(ROUND ROCK, Texas) - The Sugar Land Skeeters marched to a decisive 9-1 victory over the Round Rock Express on Saturday night at Dell Diamond.

The Skeeters lowered their magic number to four games to win the Triple A West East Division Title with the lopsided win.

Drew Butera and Jeremy Peña each launched home runs in the win, with Butera driving in a total of four runs on the evening. He delivered a sacrifice fly in the first inning and then a three-run homer in the seventh inning. It was Butera's first home run with the Skeeters since signing a minor league deal with the Houston Astros in late August.

Peña, who's rated as the Astros. No. 4 prospect by MLB.com, has hit .412 with two home runs and four RBIs over his last four games.

The Skeeters jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles from Ronnie Dawson and Norel Gonzalez and the sacrifice fly from Butera. Marty Costes provided an RBI double in the fifth prior to the homers from Peña and Butera.

Jonathan Bermudez got the start for the Skeeters and picked up his first win at the Triple A level, allowing a run on four hits and struck out four through five innings of work. Enoli Paredes, Josh James, Seth Martinez and Ronel Blanco notched scoreless innings in relief of Bermudez.

The Skeeters and Express are set to continue their six-game series at 6:05 p.m. on Sunday night, with Peter Solomon scheduled to take the mound for the Skeeters.

Tickets for the rest of the Skeeters' 2021 regular season - including the Triple A Final Stretch - are on sale and can be purchased by visiting sugarlandskeeters.com/tickets.
