Sugar Land fell short 5-3 against Somerset in the series opener tonight at TD Bank Ballpark. With the loss in Game 1, the Skeeters are now 4-10 against the Patriots so far this season, 40-34 overall.

Clint Everts (6.0,9,5,5,2,1) started on the hill for the Skeeters, his 14th of the season. The righty threw 6.0 innings and allowed five runs on nine hits with one strikeout before receiving the loss in the opening game of the series.

Shortstop Taylor Harbin (1x3, R) led off the top of the eighth inning with a ground-ruledouble, his eighth double of the season. The next batter, third baseman Dominic Ramos (1x4, RBI), was able to bring in Harbin with a single tocenter field for the first Skeeter run of the game.

Designated Hitter Delwyn Young (2x4, R) singled to right field for the first hit of the inning. A wild pitch and a sacrifice hit from first baseman Travis Scott (1x4) allowed Young to reach third as second baseman Chase Lambin (1x4, R, RBI) stepped to the plate. Lambin ripped a single to right field, which brought in Young for run number two. Harbin was walked the following batter, putting Lambin in scoring position on second. Lambin then capitalized on an error by the Patriot second baseman and was able to cross the plate for the third and final run of the game.

Jared Wells (1.0,1,0,0,1,0) entered the game to start the top of the seventh in relief for Everts. The right-hander tossed 1.0 inning and only allowed one hit and no runs with two strikeouts. Andrew Johnston (1.0,0,0,0,1,0) made his pitching debut with Sugar Land tonight in the top of the eighth inning. The righty pitched 1.0 inning and did not allow a hit or a run during his frame. Johnston joined the Skeeters yesterday after playing for Camden for the first half of the season.
