
Skeeters Fall 6-1 to Blue Crabs in Series Opener

The Skeeters were not able to overcome a three-run deficit in the first inning in the 6-1 loss to the Blue Crabs in Game 1 of the current series. With the loss tonight, Sugar Land is now 10-4 against Southern Maryland, 45-39 overall in 2014.
Steve Hammond (5.0,7,4,4,2,8) started on the mound for Sugar Land and pitched 5.0 innings allowing four runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts. Hammond received his sixth loss of theseason in the opening game of the series against Southern Maryland.
The first run for the Skeeters came in the top of the seventh inning when designated hitter Nick Stavinoha (1x4, R, RBI) hit a solo shot over the left field wall. That Homer marked the 11th for Stavinoha so far this season.
Andrew Johnston (2.0,0,0,0,0,1) entered in the bottom of the sixth in relief for Hammond. The righty tossed 2.0 shutout innings and collected one strikeout while on the hill. Cory VanAllen (1.0,3,2,2,0,1) took over in the eighth and allowed two runs on three hits with one personal retirement.
