Inland Empire 66ers News Release
Bakersfield, CA - When a team allows ten walks and eleven hits it tends not to win. The Inland Empire 66ers bucked the odds on Sunday night at "Historic" Sam Lynn Ballpark with a 10-7 win over the Bakersfield Blaze by setting a season-high in hits (17) and runs (10) and overcoming the walk total.
Inland Empire (18-33) knocked Blaze starter Lucas Schiraldi (0-2) out of the game in the first as the Sixers unloaded for six runs to open the game. IE got a triple and three doubles among its six hits to take a lead. Inland Empire added a run in the second when Caleb Adams tripled and came home on Hutton Moyer's sac-fly. The 66ers added two runs in the fourth on RBI singles from Wade Wass and Jeff Boehm to run their run total to nine through four frames.
Bakersfield (22-28) chipped away at the Sixers' lead with two runs in the first, one in the third and two more in the fourth to make it 9-5. Inland Empire issued 10 walks overall in the game. It was the second highest total of the year; oddly enough the season-worst for IE was 12 walks issued on 5/7, also at Sam Lynn Ballpark and also a game one by the Sixers albeit it a seven-inning contest.
Wade Wass tagged his third homer of the year for the Sixers in the top of the ninth to push the lead to 10-7. The Sixers got three-hit games from Boehm and RF Ayendy Perez. Inland Empire now leads the season series 5-4.
The series concludes on Memorial Day Monday at noon. It can be heard live at 66ers.com.
