Modesto Nuts News Release
San Jose, CA. - Ryan Castellani was tremendous but Sam Coonrod was better as the Modesto Nuts lost 3-0 against the San Jose Giants on Monday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.
Castellani (L, 1-5) was betrayed by his defense in his tenth start for the Nuts (20-31). The Nuts committed a season-high five errors but Castellani was good enough to allow just one unearned run. Castellani did not walk a batter and struck out five while allowing just six hits. Castellani allowed two runs, only one of which was earned.
Sam Coonrod (W, 5-1) was terrific for the Giants (29-19) again. The league's ERA leader worked 6.2 innings and did not allow a run while striking out a season-high seven and holding the Nuts 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position while he was on the mound.
Rodolfo Martinez (S, 15/16) allowed just one hit as he slammed the door in the ninth. Max White got him for a triple as part of another strong day at the plate with a pair of walks.
The Nuts head south to start a three-game series with the High Desert Mavericks on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m. Listen live online.
