Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers made it three consecutive wins over the Modesto Nuts with a 5-2 win on Sunday at San Manuel Stadium. The 66ers used a three-run seventh inning to put themselves in a position for their first four-game sweep of the year on Monday.

Inland Empire got on the board first in the third inning when Tim Arakawa tagged a triple over the centerfielder's head to knock in Ayendy Perez. Modesto (17-26) got the run back in the next half inning on Collin Ferguson's RBI single. The Nuts took a lead against Inland Empire (14-30) starter Jeremy Rhoades in the fifth when Omar Carrizales delivered a sac fly to score Forrest Wall who had singled earlier in the frame. Rhoades pitched well allowing two runs over six innings on six hits with six Ks and a walk. He did not figure in the decision. The Sixers tied the game in the bottom of the fifth when Zach Houchins singled and moved to second on Jeff Boehm's base-on-balls versus Nuts' starter Parker French. Ayendy Perez then sac bunted the runners along but French attempted to put out Houchins at third and threw it away allowing the runner to tie the game 2-2.

The Sixers got to French (2-2) in the seventh when Michael Strentz opened the frame by getting hit with a pitch. Houchins then rocked a stinging liner that went to the wall in left to put runners at second and third. Boehm followed with a single to left to knock in the runners and give IE a 4-2 advantage. Boehm eventually scored on an RBI groundout by Zach Welz to make in 5-2.

The Sixers relief corps was stout as Jose Molina, Jordan Piche and Ronnie Muck each went a hitless inning out of the pen with Molina and Muck surrendering a just walk apiece. Molina (3-2) was credited with the win while Muck earned his first save of the year.

The series concludes on Monday at 7:05 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com and 1570 AM KPRO.
