Lake Elsinore Storm News Release
LAKE ELSINORE - The San Diego Padres have named Lance Burkhart as the 14th manager in Lake Elsinore Storm history, filling the post formerly occupied by Francisco Morales, who resigned last week.
Burkhart, 41, takes the reins in Lake Elsinore after serving as the Fort Wayne TinCaps (Low A) hitting coach since 2015. He helped guide last year's TinCap team to an Eastern Division crown and a spot in the Midwest League playoffs.
A 15th round selection by the Montreal Expos in 1997, Burkhart played eight seasons of affiliated baseball before finishing his playing career in the independent Atlantic League. He had previously managed the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs before joining the Padres organization prior to the start of last season.
Burkhart will join the Storm on Monday, May 23 and is set to take over for interim manager Tony Tarasco.
