Sixers Lose Late Lead, Series

San Jose, CA- The San Jose Giants got a two run double from center fielder Ronnie Jebavy in the bottom of the eighth to take a lead against the Inland Empire 66ers on the way to an 8-5 win for the Giants at San Jose Municipal Stadium on Sunday. The victory gave the Giants a 3-games-to-1 series win over Inland Empire.

Jeremy Rhoades pitched well for the 66ers but earned a no-decision. The righty from Wheaton, IL allowed five runs, but only one earned, in six innings of work with six Ks and two walks. Nate Fury tossed a scoreless seventh for the 66ers (33-67, 10-20) but with Inland Empire leading 6-5 in the eighth, San Jose broke loose against southpaw Kevin Grendell (1-4). Daniel Carbonell opened the inning with a base hit to right and stole second. After a strikeout Cristian Paulino drew a walk. They both scored when Ronnie Jebavy pulled a double down the left field line to give the Giants a 7-6 lead. Robbie Garvey followed with a RBI single to make it 8-6.

Jared Foster had three hits for the 66ers in the loss including his first Cal League homer. Jeff Boehm had a pair of hits and tallied the only other extra-base hit for the Sixers with a second inning double. Hutton Moyer stole two bases for Inland Empire. Miguel Gomez tagged a three-run homer for the second consecutive game for San Jose (52-48, 13-17).

Tyler Cyr (2-1) got the win for San Jose with a perfect eighth inning. Reyes Moronta picked up his fifth save of the season; he allowed a base hit but struck out two to secure the game. San Jose took seven of 11 games versus the 66ers in 2016.
