
Giants Rack up 18 Hits in 8-1 Win over 66ers

San Jose, CA- The San Jose Giants matched a season-high with 18 hits en route to an 8-1 win over the Inland Empire 66ers at San Jose Municipal Stadium on Saturday. The win gave San Jose (51-48, 12-17) a 2-games-to-1 lead in the four-game set as the club improved to 6-4 against the Sixers in 2016.
The 66ers took a lead in the top of the third when with two outs San Jose starter Jose Reyes (3-3) hit Michael Hermosillo with a pitch. David Fletcher then followed by smoking a ball off the wall in left. The hit scored Hermosillo for a 1-0 lead for the Sixers and extended Fletcher's hitting-streak to 16 games, second-most this year for Inland Empire behind Tim Arakawa's 21-game streak. Fletcher was given credit for a triple on the play.
The lead did not last as the Giants got two runs in the bottom of the third against Inland Empire starter Justin Anderson (4-10). San Jose got RBI singles from Ronnie Jebavy and Dylan Davis to tie the game then take the lead. The Giants added four runs in the fifth highlighted by Miguel Gomez' three run homer, his first of the year. The Giants tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh including a solo homer from Jonah Arenado, his team-best 11th of the year. Ty Ross, Jebavy, Garvey and TJ Bennett each had three-hit performances for San Jose.
Inland Empire (33-66, 10-19) mustered just five hits in the contest. Two of the hits belonged to shortstop Roberto Baldoquin. The 66ers struck out eight times in the contest and failed to take a walk.
