Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lake Elsinore, CA-- Rancho Cucamonga's offense exploded for their largest inning of the year and earned a 17-4 victory over the Lake Elsinore Storm on Sunday evening at The Diamond.
14 men came to the plate in a nine-run sixth inning, as the Quakes salvaged a split of the four-game series against the Storm.
Joey Curletta highlighted the nine-run frame with a grand slam, his 13th homer of the year and Rancho's second grand slam of the season.
Edwin Rios ripped one of four Rancho home runs on the day, a two-run round-tripper in the first, his 15th of the year to give the Quakes a 2-0 lead.
Quakes' starter Isaac Anderson was strong on Sunday, but gave up a run in the first and another in the second, as the Storm evened the game at 2-2.
It was all Quakes from there on out, as Rancho tallied one in the third, one in the fourth, then two in the fifth on a two-run shot from Johan Mieses, his 14th of the season to make it 6-2.
From there, the offense put up nine runs in the sixth, fueled by Curletta's grand slam to take a commanding 15-2 lead.
Brandon Trinkwon capped the Rancho scoring with a two-run shot to right, his first of the year to make it 17-2 and give the Quakes their largest run total of the season at 17.
Anderson (2-0) gave the Quakes seven strong innings, allowing just two run on five hits, while striking out seven.
Yaisel Sierra came out of the pen to get the final two outs, but gave up a two-run double to Josh VanMeter in the eighth, capping the scoring at 17-4.
Dodgers' rehabbing outfielder Kike Hernandez is scheduled to rehab on Monday night for the Quakes, as he's slated to start in center field as the Quakes open a three-game series versus Inland Empire. All Dodgers' rehabbers are sponsored by San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino.
Josh Sborz (7-4) will throw for Rancho in the series-opener, as he'll be opposed by Jared Ruxer (0-2), with first pitch at 7:05pm.
