Inland Empire 66ers News Release

Lancaster, CA- In his first start with the 66ers, Max Russell held the Cal League's best team scoreless with only three hits through seven innings.

Saturday night at Lancaster, Russell couldn't replicate his performance, allowing seven runs through only five innings to the JetHawks (15-27) as the 66ers (21-20) lost 7-5.

Lancaster jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, propelled by a five-run second inning. The resilient 66ers slowly climbed back into the game, but could never recover from the early deficit.

Eric Oliver, who had one of the best games of his young career on Friday night, continued his hot hitting with a solo homerun in the fourth.

Two innings later, with the score still at 7-1, the 66ers inched closer after Jon Karcich clubbed a two-run single and later scored on a Dwayne Bailey ground out. Then, with Inland Empire within three runs, they scored again in the eighth off an error by Lancaster second baseman Jose Thompson.

But that would be all for the Sixers, as the top of the ninth proved to be uneventful. Oliver grounded out to lead off the inning and Dillon Baird and Adam Younger both flied out to go down in order.

The 7-5 loss completed a four-game road trip in Lancaster, with the 66ers splitting the series before coming home to take on the Lake Elsinore Storm on Sunday.
