June 26, 2022 - Eastern League (EL)
Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Reading Fightin Phils dropped the final game of the first half 7-6 to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. The team built up a six run lead through the first six innings but couldn't hold on in the final two frames.
Reading recorded twelve hits throughout the contest, including three from Kevin Vicuna. Eight pitchers were used in the game as the team used the bullpen from the start.
The Fightins got on the board first putting up a four-run second inning. Jack Conley doubled home Jhailyn Ortiz for the first run of the game. Chris Sharpe singled to put runners on the corners. Then, Kevin Vicuna drove in Conley and Wendell Rijo plated the rest of the runners to lead 4-0.
The R-Phils tacked on two more in the top of the seventh off the bat of Aldrem Corredor to score Ali Castillo and Vicuna.
With a 6-0 deficit, Bingham started their comeback in the bottom half. Carlos Cortes belted home Brett Baty to score their first run. Wyatt Young tripled in two more runs to cut the Fightins lead in half.
In the bottom half, the Rumble Ponies brought in a run off the bat of Ronny Mauricio. Then, Cortes launched a three-run shot into the right field parking lot to take a 7-6 lead.
Bubby Rossman took two to start, not allowing a base runner and striking out four.
Carlo Reyes threw a clean frame in his first Double-A appearance of the season.
Billy Sullivan struck out the Mets #1, 2, and 3 prospects in his first inning and used a big double play to get out of the second one.
Braden Zarbnisky had a scoreless frame of his own.
McKinley Moore came in for the seventh and only recorded one out. He allowed three runs on three hits.
Francisco Morales finished the seventh striking out two and stranding a runner on third.
Matt Seelinger took the eighth but again could only get one out. The righty let up three runs on one hit and two walks. He left two on base when he exited.
Brian Marconi came in to complete the seventh and allowed his two inherited runners to score on a home run by Carlos Cortes. Two of those runs tracked back to Seelinger. He recorded the final two outs of the frame.
The Fightin Phils wrap up the first half 29-40. They finished fifth in the Northeast Division of the Eastern League. The second half begins with a clean slate on Tuesday, June 28 at FirstEnergy Stadium when the team begins a six game series against the Somerset Patriots (Yankees).
