
Portland Splits Series with Richmond in Sunday Loss

Richmond, Virginia - Despite two homers by Nick Sogard and Hudson Potts, the Portland Sea Dogs fell to the Richmond Flying Squirrels 7-2 on Sunday afternoon. The Flying Squirrels improve to 40-29 on the season while the Sea Dogs drop to 30-39.
The Flying Squirrels struck first in the bottom of the second inning. After Sean Roby reached on a lead-off walk, he advanced to second when Shane Matheny drew a walk and advanced to third on a flyout. Roby scored on a throwing error by Portland's catcher Elih Marrero and Richmond led, 1-0.
In the top of the third inning, Nick Sogard blasted his third homer of the year to left field, tying the game 1-1.
Portland would strike again in the top of the fifth inning. Hudson Potts smashed a solo homer to left field, putting the Sea Dogs on top 2-1. He has now homered in back-to-back games.
Sean Roby blasted a two-run homer to left field in the fourth, putting the Flying Squirrels back on top, 3-2.
Richmond plated three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. After a lead-off walk by Mike Gigliotti, he scored on an RBI double to right field by Diego Rinones who eventually scored on an RBI single by Roby. Tostado then scored on a wild pitch and the Sea Dogs trailed, 6-2.
The Flying Squirrels scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. After a lead-off double by Matheny, he scored on an RBI single to right field by Gigliotti extending Richmond's lead, 7-1.
Kyle Harrison was given the win for Richmond tossing 7.0 innings allowing two runs on two hits while walking one and striking out 11. Jay Groome was tagged with the loss, pitching 3.1 innings allowing four runs (three earned) on two hits while walking four and striking out five.
The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field on Tuesday, June 28th to face the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in the first game of a six-game series in Portland. Tickets can be purchased at Hadlock Field or online at www.seadogs.com.
