Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

PENSACOLA, FL - The Lincoln Saltdogs will have to wait one more day to win a championship, after falling 7-2 at Pensacola on Saturday. The best-of-five American Association Championship Series sits tied at two games apiece.

Lincoln took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the eighth, but after a leadoff groundout, the Pelicans put the next eight runners on base. Kevin Reynolds tied the game with a single, and Jason Diaz gave Pensacola its first lead with a bunt single against Saltdogs reliever Adam Daniels (1-2). Marshall McDougall hit a two-run double to break the game open, and the Pelicans tacked on two more runs to complete a six-run frame.

The rally spoiled a great start by Jarrett Gardner, who allowed just two runs on three hits in 7.1 innings of work. Gardner walked just one and struck out five, and departed the game in the eighth inning with a runner on first and one out. The righty set Pensacola down in order in six of the first seven innings, but ended up with no decision.

Lincoln had taken a 1-0 lead in the second inning, when Rafael Alvarez scored after an infield single by Gavin Dickey. The Saltdogs took a 2-0 lead in the fifth on a solo home run by Shawn McGill, his second of the postseason. Pensacola made it 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth on a triple by Marcos Rodriguez and an RBI bloop single by Dallas Christison.

McGill finished the 2-for-4 with the home run, an RBI and a run scored. Dickey also had a two-hit night for Lincoln, which finished the night with seven hits overall.

Lincoln and Pensacola play a winner-take-all Game Five of the American Association Championship Series Sunday afternoon at 4:05. Righty Jim Paduch will make the start for the Saltdogs.
