Six Ghost Errors Not Enough To Help Idaho Falls Win

September 7, 2010 - Pioneer League (PL)
Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

The Idaho Falls Chukars lost 7-6 to the Casper Ghosts Tuesday night at Mike Lansing Field. The Ghosts have now taken the first two games of the four-game series.

The Chukars plated four runs on three doubles and four total hits in the first three innings to take a 4-2 lead against Pioneer League Pitcher of Year Albert Campos. After the Ghosts pulled within one in the sixth inning, the Chukars plated a run in the top of the eighth inning. Chukars' starting pitcher Brennon Martin was in line to get the win after three runs allowed in seven innings. Martin, who walked no batters and finished with eight strikeouts, would not earn a decision, as Edwin Carl allowed four runs in the eighth inning.

The Ghosts used two walks and two doubles in the bottom of eighth inning to take the lead for good. In the ninth inning with Ghosts' closer Juan Perez on the hill, the Chukars were only able to manage one run on one hit, two walks and three Casper errors. In fact, the Ghosts were able to win the game in spite of six errors on the night.

The 3-4-5 hitters led the Chukars' offense in the defeat. Yowill Espinal went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Murray Watts finished with a double and two RBIs in a 2-for-4 game. Travis Jones had a 2-for-5 night that included a double and two RBIs.

The Chukars and Ghosts continue the series Wednesday night at 7:05 in the confines of Mike Lansing Field.
