Sioux Falls stays atop poll for eighth consecutive week

May 3, 2012 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

Richmond, VA - For the eighth consecutive week the Sioux Falls Storm (8-0) continues its dominance at the top of the IFL Coaches' Poll.

The Storm maintained its spot at the top thanks to a gutty 49-37 victory over the Omaha Beef. In that game Sioux Falls was held to a season-low 49 points. The Storm are on a much-needed bye this week before the team hosts the also undefeated Tri-Cities Fever, in what is sure to be the marquee matchup of Week 12.

The Tri-Cities Fever (8-0) is able to keep its firm grasp on the second place position with a victory over the New Mexico Stars,37-20, in Week 10. In a game which featured strong defense by both teams, the defending Intense Conference Champions were able to pull away due in part to two touchdown passes from QB Houston Lillard to WR Oliver Young. The Fever will face the Everett Raptors (2-6) this week before a big showdown with Sioux Falls in Week 12.

There is a shakeup in the bottom of the top five this week as the Green Bay Blizzard (6-2) defeated the Bloomington Edge (7-2) last Saturday. The win moves the Blizzard move up to the third position while the Edge drop down one spot, to fourth, in this week's poll. Blizzard RB and Offensive Player of the Week LaRon Council ran for 113 yards and three touchdowns in the Blizzard victory. The Edge and Blizzard will play again this weekend.

It has been a tumultuous week for the Allen Wranglers (5-3) as the team tumbles one spot, into a tie for fifth with the Colorado Ice, this week due to the team's upset loss to the Wichita Wild 55-54. In addition, the Wranglers fired Head Coach Pat Pimmell, on Monday, following the loss. The Wranglers will play the New Mexico Stars (2-5) in Week 11.

Rounding out the top ten are the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, the Nebraska Danger, the Wichita Wild and the Omaha Beef, respectively. The Wild (3-5) move into the top ten for the first time this season as the team has won two out of the last three games.

The Wyoming Cavalry drop out of the Top Ten.
