Texas AirHogs News Release
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The Texas AirHogs led 1-0 through five but could not hang on late vs. the Sioux Falls Canaries Saturday night at AirHogs Stadium. The visitors scored eight times in the sixth through the eighth to run away with an 8-1 win.
Gan Quan (0-5) got the start for Texas and was brilliant through the first five innings. He faced just one over the minimum in that span and allowed just one hit. In the sixth, he was tagged for three runs, all unearned after a critical Texas error on a potential sacrifice bunt gave the Canaries bats extra lives.
Luo Jinjun became the first member of Team China to hit a home run this season, taking Canaries starter Cesilio Pimentel deep to lead off the third and build a 1-0 AirHogs lead.
After Sioux Falls stole the advantage in the sixth, they added to it with five runs (five earned) vs. relievers Yang Yanyong and Zhang Tao in the seventh and eighth. The Canaries were led by Jordan Smith and Jordan Dean, each of whom finished with three hits. The duo combined to score five of the Canaries' eight runs.
Stranding runners was once again a problem for the AirHogs, who left the bases loaded in the fourth before hitting into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded in the fifth. Texas stranded ten for the second straight evening.
Correlle Prime recorded two doubles for Texas. Eight of the nine AirHogs spots in the lineup had a hit. The Canaries finished the game with 12 hits vs. 10 for Texas. Pimentel (2-1) earned the win for Sioux Falls.
Texas (8-30) closes the series vs. Sioux Falls (16-23) tomorrow at 6:05. RHP Zhu Jinghao (0-2, 10.03 ERA) is expected to start for the AirHogs. LHP Joe Bircher (3-4, 5.94 ERA) is expected to start for the Canaries. A live broadcast of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs and americanassociationbaseball.tv.
