Goldeyes Sign Rookie First Baseman

WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes signed rookie first baseman Jamey Smart on Saturday.

Smart recently finished a four-year college career at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California. The San Ramon, California native hit .275 with four home runs and 44 RBI in 55 games as a senior in 2018. During his junior season in 2017, Smart was voted to the West Coast Conference (WCC) All-Conference Team after hitting .326 with six homers and 41 RBI in 56 contests. The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Smart hit a combined .298 in 200 collegiate games for the Loyola Marymount Lions from 2015-18. At 22 years of age, Smart is the first player in Goldeyes' history born in 1996 (May 9th, 1996).

First baseman Eric Aguilera has re-signed with the Mexican League's Algodoneros de Union Laguna. Aguilera hit .286 with one home run and seven RBI in 17 games for the Goldeyes after beginning the season with Union Laguna.

The Goldeyes' active roster currently stands at 23 players, which is the American Association maximum during the regular season.
