Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
The Sioux Falls Canaries won their fourth in a row in style on Saturday, cruising to an 8-1 road win over the Texas AirHogs at AirHogs Stadium.
The Canaries ran away with the game in the late innings, scoring three in the sixth, three in the seventh and two in the eighth to lock up the win.
The Canaries got off to a slow start at the beginning of the game, recording only one hit on offense over the first five innings. Meanwhile, Luo Jinjun hit his first home run of the season in the third to give Texas a 1-0 lead.
The Birds offense woke up in the sixth, scoring their first run on an error. Jabari Henry followed it up with a two-run single to make it 3-1 Birds. It was Henry's third straight game with an RBI.
David Bergin got in on the run-scoring in the seventh inning, hitting a two-run double with the bases loaded to make it 5-1 Birds. Blake Schmit scored the Birds' sixth run on a wild pitch later in the frame.
With the Birds up 6-1 at the seventh-inning stretch, Canaries manager Mike Meyer pulled starter Cesilio Pimentel from the game. Pimentel allowed one run over his six innings of work on six hits, walking four and striking out three.
The Birds plated two more in the eighth on four straight singles, including RBI hits from Dan Motl and Smith. Smith has reached base in every game this season.
Tyler Wolfe and Ryan Fritze pitched the last three innings for Sioux Falls to lock up the win.
