WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts defeated the Shreveport-Bossier Captains 6-2 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Tuesday night.

Nick Singleton improved to 8-0 on the season, allowing two earned runs on just five hits over seven innings. Singleton walked only one and struck out eight. The right-hander struck out the side in the top of the seventh.

Wichita took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second against Captains' starter Aaron Cunningham. Jorge Delgado led off with a line drive single to left and came around on the next pitch when Josh Workman homered to right-center field.

Mike Conroy singled up the middle leading off the bottom of the fifth, extending his hitting streak to 16 games. Jose Duran followed with a flyball double to left-center that moved Conroy to third. After Cunningham retired Josh Horn, Ryan Patterson singled sharply through the middle to score two runs and give Wichita a 4-0 lead.

The Captains scored their only runs in the top of the sixth on a two-out, two-run home run from Andres Rodriguez. The home run ended Singleton's scoreless inning streak at 26 and two-thirds. The streak stretched back four starts to the 29th of May at Lincoln. Singleton threw 110 pitches to earn the win and retired the leadoff hitter in six of seven innings. Singleton faced multiple baserunners only once the entire night.

The Wingnuts added two more runs in the seventh against reliever Mark Haynes. Patterson opened the inning with a single to center and scored when Brent Clevlen tripled to the right-center field wall. Juan Richardson drove in Clevlen with an RBI single to left.

Clevlen and Duran each went 4 for 4. Seven of the Wingnuts' starters had at least one hit. Kendy Batista and Jared Simon each pitched a scoreless inning in relief of Singleton.

Prior to the game, the Wingnuts signed right-hander Michael Cotter. Cotter saved 14 games this spring for Emporia State University. Wichita released right-hander Gary Lee.
