
Sinclair Named to Canada Women's National Team Roster for Tokyo 2020 Olympics

PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Thorns FC midfielder Christine Sinclair was named to the Canada Women's National Team roster for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, it was announced today. This marks the fourth time Sinclair has been selected to represent Canada at the Olympics.
Sinclair made her first appearance at the Beijing 2008 Olympics and helped lead Canada to back-to-back bronze medals at the London 2012 Olympics and the Rio 2016 Olympics. In her three previous trips to the Olympics, Sinclair has appeared in 15 matches, tallying 11 goals. In 2012, Sinclair recorded six goals in six games, including a hat-trick in the semifinals against the United States. In 2016, she scored the game-winner in the bronze medal match to help Canada secure a 2-1 win over Brazil, appearing in five matches during the tournament while scoring three goals.
The Canada Women's National Team captain holds the all-time international goal-scoring record for both men and women, tallying 186 goals in 299 appearances. With her next cap, Sinclair will become the fourth women's player in international soccer history to appear in 300 matches for their national team.
Canada opens group play on July 21 against Japan and plays its other two group matches against Chile on July 24 and Great Britain on July 27. The quarterfinals are set to take place on July 30 and the semifinals on Aug. 2. The tournament concludes with the bronze medal match on Aug. 5 and the gold medal match on Aug. 6.
