
Sims Late Basket Surges Energy

Bismarck, N.D.an. 3, 2011) - Courtney Sims converted a three-point play with 6.6 seconds left in the game to lead the Iowa Energy (13-5) to a 94-91 victory over the Dakota Wizards (4-13) Monday night at the Bismarck Civic Center. Sims finished the game with a double-double scoring 26 points to go along with 11 rebounds.
The Energy took an early 11-4 lead in the first quarter until an 8-0 run by the Wizards on a running jump shot by Reanldo Major would give Dakota a 12-11 lead with 4:22 left in the quarter. The lead would change four more times with Iowa leading 20-18 at the end of the first quarter. Both teams would battle back and forth in the second with seven more lead changes in the quarter. With 29.6 left in the quarter, Renaldo Major converted a three-point play to give the Wizards a 43-41 lead at the break.
The Energy started the third quarter on a missed technical foul shot by Curtis Stinson but would go on a 6-0 run capped by a jumper by Kyle Weaver to lead 47-43 early in the quarter. Dakota fought back in the quarter, having been outscored 38-17 in the third Friday night, and a 48 foot shot by Major would give Dakota a 42-39 lead at the end of three quarters. Major would score 13 of his game high 28 points in the third quarter. Dakota would lead most of the fourth quarter until Sims converted a three-point play with 2:38 left in the quarter to give Iowa an 87-86 lead. The Wizards tied the game at 91-91 on two free throws by Anthony Goods with 29.7 seconds left and then Sims would then shine again as he would convert a second three-point play off a missed jumper by Stinson and the Energy would lead 94-91. With no timeouts left, Mike Hall's desperation three would fall short and the Energy would defeat the Wizards for the sixth time this season.
Curtis Stinson would match Sims with 26 points on 13-23 shooting. Othyus Jeffers would also record a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds.
The Wizards were led in scoring by Renaldo Major, who scored 28 points to go with 8 rebounds and Anthony Goods who scored a season high 19 points.
The Wizards are back in action this Thursday, January 6th as the travel to Portland, ME to take on the Red Claws.
