Erie BayHawks News Release

Erie, Pennsylvania, Tuesday, January 4 - The Erie BayHawks have traded guard Maureece Rice to the Sioux Falls Skyforce in exchange for the team's second round pick in the 2011 NBA Development League draft.

Rice (6-1, 230) a George Washington alum, appeared in all 50 games for Erie during the team's inaugural season in 2008-09. He finished ranked 13th in the league in scoring averaging 18.7 points and adding 4.5 rebounds and 4 assists per game. He spent time last season playing for Azovmash Mariupol in the Ukraine.

Rice returned to Erie's training camp in November as a result of league rules that allow teams to retain the rights of returning players for up to two years. He has not appeared in any games this season for the BayHawks due to being hampered by injury since training camp.

Sioux Falls (2-12) comes to town on Friday to face the BayHawks (11-6) for the teams' first meeting of the season. Tip is set for 7 pm at Tullio Arena.

The transaction marks the team's fourth roster move in a week. On Wednesday the team reacquired guard Blake Ahearn, and traded guard Cedric Jackson to the Idaho Stampede for their first-round pick in the 2011 Development League draft. On Thursday, Erie traded forward Jeff Adrien to Rio Grande Valley in exchange for guard Garrett Temple.

As a result of the recent moves Erie currently has two selections in each of the first two rounds of the 2011 NBA Development League draft.
