FLINT, Mich. - The Czech Ice Hockey Federation announced on Tuesday that Firebirds center Simon Slavicek has been named to the preliminary roster for the Czechia National Junior Team. Should he make the final roster, Slavicek would compete for his home nation at the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championships.

Slavicek has appeared in 26 games for the Firebirds this season and recorded six goals and 16 assists. He is currently fifth on the team with 22 points. The 19-year-old Prague native will attempt to crack the Czechia World Junior roster for the first time.

Czechia brought home the silver medal in the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championships. Slavicek joins his Firebirds teammate Gavin Hayes as World Junior hopefuls from Flint. Hayes was named to the preliminary U.S. National Junior Team roster on Dec. 4. Czechia will compete in Group B alongside the United States, Slovakia, Switzerland and Norway. The tournament will take place in Gothenburg, Sweden from Dec. 26 - Jan 5.

Flint hits the ice on Thursday night in Saginaw for a clash with the rival Saginaw Spirit. Puck drop at the Dow Event Center is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
