Windsor, ON - The Spitfires are looking to continue the momentum into this weekend as they collected two wins in three games. Windsor defeated the Barrie Colts and Flint Firebirds over the weekend to improve to 5-3-0 under Casey Torres. The Spitfires will be looking to continue improving each and every day and have their eyes set on the London Knights. Puck drop is set for 7:05 pm on Thursday at The WFCU Centre.

Head-to-Head:

The Spitfires head into Thursday's game placed last in the OHL's Western Conference with a 9-19-1-0 record just 3 points behind Sarnia. The London Knights are currently placed 4th in the West with a 17-11-0-1 record. Most recently, they faced the Soo Greyhounds Knights in the Soo where they lost 504

Thursday's contest will be the second of six meetings this season between the two clubs. London took the first matchup in Windsor in a wild affair 10-7. Over the past five seasons, the Spitfires are 8-15-2-2 overall against the Knights and 4-8-0-2 at home.

During the 2022-23 season, the Knights went 4-2-0, while the Spitfires had a record of 2-2-1-1.

Scouting the Spitfires:

Liam Greentree (NHL draft eligible) leads the Spitfires in points (39), goals (19) and assists (20). Greentree has 4 points in his last two games (2 goals, 2 assists).

Oliver Peer is 2nd behind Greentree with 38 points with 18 goals and 20 assists. Peer has seven points in his last three games (3 goals, 4 assists). He was an OHL honourable mention in the player of the week.

Valentin Zhugin the new comer has been hot as of late. He has five points in his last four games (2 goals, 3 assists).

Goaltender Ian Michelone has been lights out in his last two starts. He has put up a 2.00GAA and a .945 SV%.

Scouting the Knights:

Their last time out, the Knights lost to the Greyhounds in the Soo 5-4. Sam Dickinson had a goal and two assists on the four Knights goals. He was named the third star of the game.

Denver Barkey (Philadelphia Flyers) leads the Knights with 41 points (17G, 24A). He is currently on a five game point streak with 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists). He is questionable for the Knights lineup on Thursday as he attends Team Canada's World Junior Selection Camp.

Easton Cowan (Toronto Maple Leafs) is currently 2nd in points, he has 12 goals and 27 assists this season for 39 points. He has also been on a five game point streak with 11 points (3 goals, 8 assists). He is also questionable for the lineup as he attends Canada's Camp.

Jacob Julien (Winnipeg Jets) currently sits third in points on the Knights with 10 goals and 22 assists. Julien was drafted in the 5th round of 2023 NHL Entry draft to WPG. The U-18 draft pick has a four game point streak with 8 points (2 goals, 6 assists).

Kasper Halttunen (San Jose Sharks) is 4th on the Knights in scoring and will not be in the lineup on Thursday as he has been named to the roster for Team Finland.

Oliver Bonk (Philadelphia Flyers) sits 5th on the Knights in scoring and the top of their defenceman. He will also be questionable for the lineup as he attends Canada's Camp.

Looking at the tenders, Michael Simpson who was acquired in a trade has had the 70/30 split between himself and Owen Willmore. Simpson currently has 13 wins in 22 games with a 2.99 GAA and a .897 SV%.

Next Up:

The Windsor Spitfires will head to Owen Sound on Friday ahead of the game on Saturday. It is the final game before the Christmas break. Puck drop is set for 7:00pm on Saturday at the Harry Lumley Bayshore arena. Owen Sound currently sits at 6th in the Western Conference with a 15-11-2-0 record.
