Silvertips Win 3-2 at Key Arena

The Everett Silvertips extended their winning streak with another victory over division rivals, the Seattle Thunderbirds. Tonight at the Key Arena the Silvertips defeated the Thunderbirds 3-2, the first win for Everett at the Key since the 2003-04 season. This is the third meeting this year and Everett leads the series 2-1. The Silvertips march forward with 43 points and a 21-14-1-0 record, first in the US. Seattle remains in third place with 32 points and a 14-17-1-3 history.

John Lammers paved the way to the Silvertips' win, scoring first for his team at 6:47 of the first period. On a power play, Torrie Wheat won the draw and sent the puck over to Lammers, who had time to skate in and sent his shot right underneath Gavin McHale's arm. Seattle responded with their own tally late in the period when Bretton Stamler received credit for a puck that bounced off the body of a Silvertip player and into the net.

Shane Harper pushed the Silvertips up by one on another power play at 5:38 of the second period. Three minutes later the Thunderbirds tied it up again at 2-2 with Aaron Gagnon catching his own rebound and sending it top shelf, right over Matt Esposito. Then at 1:48 of the final session John Lammers scored the game winning goal to round the scoring out at 3-2. Posting assists in tonight's game for Everett were John Lammers, Torrie Wheat, Shaun Heshka and Brady Calla, all with one a piece.

Matt Esposito earns his second win on the season, stopping 27 of 29 shots and boosts his young record to 2-1-1. Gavin McHale dropped two games in a row to Everett. He made 21 saves on night but in the end it wasn't enough. His record falls farther to 3-11-0-1. Everett converted on two of seven power play attempts during the game while Seattle went scoreless on four. Seattle out shot the Silvertips 29-24.

The Everett Silvertips are on break until Thursday, December 29th. That night they will resume the second half of their season at home at the Everett Events Center where they will play the Tri-City Americans. The puck drops at 7:05pm.
