Silvertips Blow Out Thunderbirds 5-0

Everett, Washington In front of a sold out crowd of 8,504 the Everett Silvertips blew out the Seattle Thunderbirds by a final score of 5-0. This is the second of eleven meetings between the two clubs and both teams have one win a piece, each on their home ice. Everett increases their lead in the division standings now with an accumulated 41 points and a 20-14-1-0 record. Seattle, third in the US, has a 14-16-1-3 history and 32 points.

Like last night's game against the Spokane Chiefs, the first period was where the majority of the scoring took place. Shaun Heshka drew first blood and followed up with another marker at 2:05 and 14:18. Both times he one-timed it from the center point and the puck sailed through the Seattle goaltender. Peter Mueller received assists on both the defenseman's tallies with John Lammers earning one on the second shot. With the Silvertips up 2-0, Mueller padded their lead with a rocket from the left circle and Everett finished out the first session on top 3-0. Heshka and Taylor Ellington posted the assists on Everett's third goal.

In the second Torrie Wheat fought for notch number four when he shoved the puck right underneath the goalie. Again Mueller and Heshka earned the assists. Then, late in the third, Graham Potuer earned his first of the season with a shot from Heshka's lucky spot, center point. Brennan Zasitko earned his first point for the season with an assist along with Damir Alic.

Leland Irving was a brick wall tonight, turning away all 34 Seattle shots to improve his record to 19-13 and also earning shut out number three this season. Gavin McHale, Seattle's netminder, falls to 3-10-0-1 while only stopping 29 of 34 shots during the hockey game. On the power play Everett completed 3 of 7 while Seattle was scoreless on five tries. Both teams finished the game with 34 shots on goal.

The battle begins anew with Everett traveling south to Key Arena tomorrow night, Sunday December 18th. The puck drops at 5:05pm.
