Everett Silvertips News Release

Prince George, B.C. - The Everett Silvertips picked up a 5-4 shootout victory over the Prince George Cougars in their Western Hockey League game on Thursday night, January 24th, at the CN Centre in Prince George. Dan Gendur scored the lone shootout goal to go along with his three assists, and Shayne Barrie stopped 35 shots for his fifth straight win. Everett's record hits the 60 point mark at 29-20-0-2. They remain third place in the U.S. Division and fifth in the Western Conference.

The Silvertips opened the game by having to kill off two consecutive early two man disadvantages. By doing so it pushed their consecutive successful penalty kill streak to 40; by the end of the game that number would climb to 45. Late in the opening period they would get onto the scoreboard with a pair of goals. Shane Harper picked up the first at 16:31 and then the top line of Clayton Bauer, Zach Hamill, and Gendur continued their hot play when Hamill and Gendur assisted on Bauer's 23rd of the season with just 0.9-seconds left on the clock.

Prince George pulled themselves back even with two second period goals. Dana Tyrell scored for the home team at 7:12 and just under two minutes later at 9:01 it was Parker Stanfield tying things up. However, a Gendur shot from the top of the left circle deflected off of a screening Hamill and into the net at 14:40 to reestablish a 3-2 lead.

It didn't last for long though before Marcus Watson made it a 3-3 game just 4:56 into the final 20-minutes. Both teams exchanged chances to score late until the Silvertips picked up a power play which resulted in Harper's second goal of the game at 18:28. Following the play, the Cougars pulled goaltender Real Cyr for the extra attacker and it paid off as they again tied the score at the 19:18 mark to force overtime.

Neither team came up with the definitive goal in the extra 5-minute period and so attention shifted to the shootout. Through the first two rounds, Matt Ius and Hamill were unsuccessful for Everett while Barrie stopped Prince George's representatives of Corey Tyrell and Alex Poulter. Gendur completed his mammoth two days by beating Cyr to open the third round and Barrie picked up one last save on Stanfield to secure the victory.

The Silvertips finish up their week with a 7:05 p.m. game Saturday night at Key Arena against the Seattle Thunderbirds. They return home to Comcast Arena at the Everett Events Center next Tuesday night, January 29th, when the Prince Albert Raiders make their lone regular season visit. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
