Silvertips Fall For Fifth Straight Game

December 1, 2007 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Everett Silvertips News Release

Vancouver, B.C. - The Everett Silvertips were handed their worst defeat of the season 7-0 by the Vancouver Giants in their Western Hockey League game on Saturday night, December 1st, at Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver. Everett's record in their six game regular season series against the Giants is now 1-3; overall they are 14-14-0-2 (30 pts.) on the season and remain third in the U.S. Division.

Vancouver set the tone for the game early with their first score coming just 1:54 into the first period. They would go on to add a pair of power play goals at 8:48 and 17:37, the first of which was during a two man advantage and brought with it a goaltending change as Shayne Barrie substituted Leland Irving. The second period played out much like the first with the Giants producing a set of goals.

Scoring in the middle 20-minutes came at 1:29, 12:38, and the final man advantage goal at 15:07. Despite their overall struggles on the scoreboard, the Silvertips tightened up their penalty killing and fended off both a second Vancouver 5-on-3 as well as a five minute power play early in the third period.

The extended disadvantage came as result of a collision behind the Everett net between Silvertips defenseman Dane Crowley and Giants forward Michal Repik. Crowley was assessed a major penalty for interference on the play which ended with Repik needing medical assistance from the ice. Everett tried to regroup but never could get any of their mere 13 shots behind Vancouver goaltender Tyson Sexsmith.

The Silvertips once again play just two games next week and each one is against the Tri-City Americans at Comcast Arena at the Everett Events Center. Wednesday night is the first of the two contests with the face-off scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Things finish up next Friday night at 7:35 p.m.
