
Silvertips Exact Revenge On Winterhawks

The Everett Silvertips and the Portland Winterhawks met for a second time in as many nights and this time the Silvertips came out on top of the Winterhawks by a final score of 5-2. This was the sixth meeting of ten between these two franchises and Everett leads the series 5-1. Everett, moving up to 34-7-0-1, now has 69 points and rests in first place in the US Division. Portland, dropping to 14-27-1-1, has 30 points and sits at the bottom of the division.
It was all Everett in the opening stanza. At 6:41, on a power play, Moises Gutierrez earned his 22nd on the year after he deflected in a shot from Peter Mueller. Zach Hamill posted the secondary assist. Seven minutes later Silvertip newcomer Dane Crowley earned his first goal in an Everett uniform after he sent his shot top shelf behind Kurtis Mucha. Brandon Campos and Shane Harper were given credit for the assists.
In the second the Winterhawks scored two unanswered goals to even up the score at 2-2. The first came from Matt Schmermund after he capitalized on a turnover from behind the Everett net. The second was scored by Nick Hotson, while Portland was on a 5-on-3 power play. Teegan Moore posted helpers on both goals while Frazer McLaren had an assist on the Winterhawks' second tally.
Everett wasn't done yet. Two and a half minutes later, at 11:56 of the second, Gutierrez back-handed the puck into the net to push his team up 3-2. In the third the Silvertips buried the hatchet by scoring two more times to finish the game out at 5-2. Zach Hamill had Everett's fourth tally at 10:18 while Peter Mueller had the last goal of the game at 11:30. Tallying assists on the Silvertips' last three goals were Peter Mueller, Mike Alexander, Dan Gendur, Kyle Beach, Moises Gutierrez and Ondrej Fiala all with one a piece.
David Reekie made a return to the pipes for Everett in tonight's game and earns yet another win. After stopping 20/22 shots he moves up to 16-6. Kurtis Mucha, the Portland netminder, made 31 saves on 36 shots and falls to 14-20-1-1. On the power play both teams scored once with the Silvertips having seven chances and the Winterhawks having six. Everett out shot their opponents 36-22 in the hockey game.
The Everett Silvertips are back at home on Friday, January 19th, when they will face off against the Vancouver Giants. The puck drops at 7:35pm.
