Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips will pick first-overall in the 2024 Western Hockey League Draft.
The Silvertips held the best odds at the first-overall pick by virtue of last year's trade deadline deal with the Kamloops Blazers that brought 10 draft picks and four players to Everett. Kamloops then finished 20-42-3-3 (46 points) in 2023-24.
"This is an exciting day for everyone in our organization to have the opportunity to make the first overall pick," commented Silvertips assistant general manager Mike Fraser. "I'm happy for our scouting staff who work tirelessly all season long identifying and evaluating potential future Silvertips. We couldn't be more pleased with the result of the lottery today."
Everett has never held the first-overall pick in the WHL Draft in their franchise history. Their previous highest overall pick was their expansion slot selection in 2003, in which they drafted future NHL forward Zach Hamill third-overall. Since then, the Silvertips have never picked higher than seventh-overall.
Recent first-overall selections in the WHL Draft include two-time Ed Chenowyth Cup champion Dylan Guenther (2018), Matthew Savoie (2019), 2023 NHL first-overall pick Connor Bedard (2020), Spokane Chiefs forward Berkly Catton (2021), Medicine Hat Tigers forward Gavin McKenna (2022) and Prince Albert Raiders defenseman Daxon Rudolph (2023).
The 2024 WHL U.S. Priority Draft will be held Wednesday, May 8 and the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft will be held Thursday, May 9.
