Silverbacks continue good community work

Buffalo Silverbacks News Release

Buffalo. The following is a letter to the ABA Buffalo Silverbacks from Planned Parenthood of Buffalo & Erie County, Inc. in New York.

"Thank you very much for the time and wisdom that you (Modie Cox) and DeRon Rutledge shared with the participants of the Planned Parenthood of Niagara Falls 3-on-3 basketball tournament. The event held on May 26th at the Niagara Fall Community Center attracted over 75 young men and women. In addition to competing in the basketball events, the participants had the opportunity to visit information tables set up by local health and human service agencies, enjoyed food and prizes and participated in free throw contests and trivia games.

A highlight of the evening was the short but inspirational speech that you and DeRon gave to the teens. They were enthralled to be in the company of professional basketball players. You gave them insights into what it takes to succeed. Most importantly you gave the teens the message that whatever decisions they make for themselves they should be positive ones and they need always to do the best that they possibly can./

I was further impressed with the two of you when you took the time to sit down with a couple of the teens and spend some one on one time with them. One young man was very interested and knowledgeable about professional basketball. You allowed him to display his talents while imparting on him that succeeding and moving his life in a positive direction was paramount. Your invitation to have him attend Silverback games was certainly a highlight of this young man's evening.

I look forward to working with the two of you to help get this young man and his peers to some of your games. Please be in touch and let's see how we can make this happen.

Sincerely, Najeyah, Director of Community Programs. For more information, visit www.buffalosilverbacks.com or www.abalive.com.

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
