Reno Silver Sox News Release
In a tightly contested game one to the series, The St. George Roadrunners defeated the Reno Silver Sox 8-6 in a back and forth game at Peccole Park.
Last year when the Silver Sox visited Roadrunners, a game was canceled when the City experienced a power outage. Saturday, there was Power in Reno, but the lights at Peccole Park still went out for 25 minutes in the first inning, temporarily stopping the game in the top of the first inning.
At that point, the Roadrunners had already taken a 3-0 lead after DH Cody Nowlin doubled in a pair of runs and 1B Juan Melo singled in one. St George would go on to post a 5-0 lead after the first half inning which ended at 7:45.
In the bottom of the first, the Silver Sox, did not take long to respond. LF Ross McCoy knocked in Reno's first run on a groundout, and then 1B Steve Alexander hit a line drive two-run home run over the left field fence to get the Silver Sox right back in the ballgame.
Reno added to its total in the bottom of the second inning when DH Doug Sanders knocked in a run and made the score 5-4 St George.
After the Roadrunners added a run in the top of the fourth, the Sox rallied back in the bottom of the fifth. 2B Carlos Madrid knocked in a run with a single, and LF Ross McCoy drove in one more with a double to tie the game at six.
Reno starting pitcher Derrick Landavazo continued his trend of pitching deep into games, as the right hander tossed six innings allowing eight runs. Landavazo was removed from the game in the seventh inning when the Roadrunners added two more runs to take an 8-6 lead.
Madrid had a good night for the Silver Sox, as the seven year Peccole Park veteran went 2- 4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
The Silver Sox are back in action Saturday, when the St. George Roadrunners return for a 5 PM doubleheader with gates opening at 4 PM. It is also Spitz Sunflower Seed Night at the ballpark, you can always get tickets at silversoxbaseball.com!
