Syracuse Silver Knights News Release

SYRACUSE, New York - Your Silver Knights began another back to back road weekend by traveling to Chicago early Saturday morning before their 3pm afternoon game. The Knights would take a 5-3 lead into the half but could not hold onto the lead after the Mustangs came storming back for a 8 goal second half.

Making his third start in a row for the Silver Knights was Syracuse native Andrew Coughlin. With two the previous weekend the Silver Knights were looking to continue all the momentum they could. The first quarter started very fast as Kenardo Forbes scored the first goal of the game just 10 seconds into the match.

The Silver Knights would find the back of the net again just 3:30 later. While on the power play Joey Tavernese would find the back of the net on a fed from Forbes on the right hand side would give the Knights a 2-0 lead with 11 minutes remaining in the quarter. The Mustangs would respond though on a power play with a goal from Luis Ortega. That goal gave the Knights a 2-1 lead heading into the second quarter.

The two sides traded goals for the whole second quarter who combined for 5 goals in the 2nd. The Silver Knights got things started from another Kenardo Forbes assists to Garrett Losee for his first of the game just 2:25 into the 2nd quarter. The Mustangs would continue to respond again from the foot of Luis Ortega who scored his second of the game. The Silver Knights would then get goals from Domenico Vitale (Joey Tavernese) and from Bo Jelovac (unassisted) to take a 5-3 lead heading into the lockeroom for the half.

The second half would prove to be a different story for both the Silver Knights and the Mustangs. The Mustangs would allow just 1 goal in the third and 1 more in the fourth quarter while in turn scored 8 goals. The lone Silver Knight goal would come from Darren Toby on a power play assist from JJ Gibson in the third and Joey Tavernese.

But six fourth quarter goals would take away any chances the Silver Knights had in this game. The Mustangs were led by newcomer Robert Gunderson who had a hat trick in his first MASL game. Scoring three points for the Mustangs was Luis Ortega who had 2 first half goals and 1 assist in the win. The win kept the Mustangs in first place in the Central Division.

Your Silver Knights got goals from Domenico Vitale, Bo Jelovac, Garret Losee, Darren Toby, Kenardo Forbes, and two by Joey Tavernese. Andrew Coughlin picked up his first MASL loss making 10 saves on 21 shots in the contest.
