SYRACUSE, New York - The Syracuse Silver Knights (6-6, Eastern Division #2) completed a 10-point comeback to beat the Rochester Lancers (5-7, Eastern Division #2) 12-11 at home in the Thruway Rivalry Friday night.

The Knights improve to 15-6 all time against the Lancers after the win.

The Lancers struck first just minutes into the match with a beautiful right-footed volley from Mauricio Salles to put Rochester up 2-0. The forward collected a bouncing ball just inside of the arc on the left side and rifled his shot home.

Three minutes later the Knights scored through Kenardo Forbes to tie the game. The Jamaican found some space inside the arc on the right side and ripped a far post shot that beat Joe Kapinos to even the game 2-2.

Just seconds after Syracuse tied the match, Lancer forward Andrew Hoxie took advantage of a mistake from Nelson Santana to put his team up 4-2. Hoxie turned on Santana at the half way line and was clean through on goal. He coolly finished the chance by shooting over Syracuse keeper Bryan O'Quinn.

The Lancers added to their lead with 7:48 to go in the first quarter on a right-footed three-point rocket from Stephen Basso. The ball fell to the defender outside of the arc on the left and he rifled it home making the score 7-2.

In the second quarter, the Lancers increased their lead thanks Gary Boughton. The forward buried a close ranged right-footed shot passed O'Quinn to put the score at 9-2.

A minute later Boughton was at it again. He collected the ball after a skirmish in the area and scored a second close ranged goal to put the Lancers up 11-2.

Late in the first half Forbes scored his second goal of the night to cut Syracuse's deficit to six. The ball squeaked out to him on the right side and he buried a one timer from outside of the arc. The Orange, Silver and Black trailed 11-5 heading into the break.

In the third, the Knights cut the deficit to four on a Domenico Vitale goal. Neto received a pass into the area with his back to goal and then found Vitale on the left just inside the arc. The defender curled a shot into the far corner to put the score at 11-7.

With 10:05 left in the game, the 'Cuse once again cut into the deficit through Neto. There was a scrum in Rochester's penalty area and Forbes managed to get a shot away that was deflected right to Neto for a tap in. The forward's first goal of the game made the score 11-9 Rochester.

With 3:12 left the Orange Silver and Black completed the comeback. Slav Ubiparipovic scored a brilliant left-footed free kick from straight away to put Syracuse up 12-11. The forward ripped his shot right into the top right corner leaving Kapinos with no chance. With Ubiparipovic's goal, the Knights had scored ten unanswered points.

Postgame Ubiparipovic said he was thankful to get off the mark in the game, "I needed a goal. I needed one to break through. I hadn't been able to score the last few games so it's good to score the game winning goal."

Head coach Tommy Tanner said after the match that he was in disbelief at his forward's game winning strike: "He hit a dipper. I don't even know how it went in. It dipped around a lot, under the bar, it was incredible."

The free kick ended up being the winning goal for Syracuse. The Knights improved to 6-6 on the year and remain in second place in the Eastern Division.

Syracuse's next opponent is the Harrisburg Heat (0-10, Eastern Division #5). That game kicks off Sunday at 1 pm at the War Memorial. Tickets to all Silver Knights home games will be available at the CNY Family Sports Center, online at www.syracusesilverknights.com or over the phone ay 315-303-7261.
