Lancaster Stormers News Release

Fans who came to a baseball game on Sunday afternoon instead watched a Crab feast.

It was the Crabs doing the feasting.

Rubi Silva went 4-for-6 with seven RBI to lead the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs to a 16-0 defeat of the Lancaster Barnstormers in the finale of a three-game series.

The Southern Maryland center fielder singled home Michael Baca with the afternoon's first run off Francisco Mendoza (0-2) three batters into the game. He added a leadoff homer in the third, a two-run single to center in the fourth and a two-run triple in the fifth. His final RBI, to set the Southern Maryland franchise record, came on a grounder in the sixth inning.

Silva's efforts backed 7 1/3 innings of shutout baseball by right-hander Blake Bivens (1-1). The Southern Maryland right-hander allowed four hits and four walks while striking out nine. No Lancaster runner reached third base on the afternoon.

Anthony Peroni paced the Barnstormers with two of the team's six hits.

The Barnstormers will open a three-games series against the York Revolution on Tuesday evening. Cody Boydstun (2-2) will make the start for Lancaster. Fans may tune into Blue Ridge 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel at 6:30.

NOTES: Peroni's second hit, with two outs in the ninth, enabled Nick Shumpert to extend his hitting streak to seven games...Garrett Granitz (single) and Jordan McCrum (walk) both reached base as the pitchers were forced to bat...The Barnstormers traded reliever Junior Rincon to West Virginia following the game.
