Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Charlotte Checkers announced today that defenseman Ryan Glenn and center Ryan Lang – already nicknamed "The Pair from Up There" – have agreed to terms for the 2004-05 season. The announcement was made by Checkers head coach Derek Wilkinson.

Defenseman Ryan Glenn, a native of Port Coquitlam, BC, was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in round 5 and went #145 overall in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. During the 1999-00 season with the Walpole Stars, he won the EJHL Defensemen of the Year award and earned first team all-star honors. In his senior year at St. Lawrence University, the 6'2", 205-pounder racked up 7 goals, 22 assists, and 67 PIM.

"Glenn comes to us highly recommended," said Coach Wilkinson. "After attending Hartford's camp this year, we're confident he'll add both size and offense to our blueline."

Hailing from Regina, Saskatchewan, Ryan Lang accrued 67 points in the NCAA as a center with the University of Alaska-Fairbanks Nanooks. In his senior year, the 5'10", 175-pound Lang chalked up a solid 23 points in 36 games. Winner of the Most Dedicated Player award for the 2003-04 season, Lang was described by former Fairbanks head coach Guy Gadowsky as "playing the best hockey" of his career.

Said Coach Wilkinson, "We're very excited to have Ryan [Lang] on the team. He's a good young player with a lot of potential who will bring a lot of energy and passion to the ice."

With the arrival of Lang and Glenn, the Checkers roster is now officially at 16. They join center Mike Harder, wingmen Eddie Pershin, Dusty Jamieson and Matt Chandler, defensemen Dan Preston, Clay Plume, Brett Petersen, and Kenton Smith, goalies Alex Westlund and Mike Ayers, and forwards Allan Egeland, Justin Dziama, Tyler Lawson, and Cody Loughlean who all previously announced as having agreed to terms.
