Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the New York Islanders, have announced that rookie defensemen James Sanford and Eric Nelson have agreed to terms on contracts for the 2004-05 season.
Sanford, 20, finished tied for fifth in scoring and first among defensemen for Moncton of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in 2003-04 with 16 goals and 53 points. The Alma, NB native collected 187 points with 55 goals and 132 assists over his five-year QMJHL career. Sanford recently participated at the Montreal Canadiens annual rookie camp finishing with 2 assists in 3 games. He will attend training camp with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League beginning tomorrow.
Nelson, 24, served as captain at the University of Connecticut in 2003-04 and finished second among defensemen in scoring with 6 goals and 16 points in 35 games. As a freshman in 2000-01, the Big Lake, MN native tallied the most goals by a Connecticut freshman at the Division 1 level with 11 and was named the MAAC Defensive Rookie of the Year. Nelson notched 21 goals and 62 points in 136 collegiate games.
"Both of these guys are viable scoring threats from the blue line," said Head Coach Matt Thomas. "James Sanford is a crafty playmaker who can run the power play efficiently, while Eric Nelson with his size and ability has been touted as a prospect with NHL potential."
With today's signings, the Bullies have 22 players under contract with 15 days until the opening of training camp.
