Sidorov's Hat Trick Sinks Wheat Kings in Saskatoon

Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
One highly skilled player is often not enough to earn a team a win in a team-oriented sport like hockey, but every now and then someone puts a team on their back. Unfortunately for the Wheat Kings, that someone was Egor Sidorov.
Sidorov scored three times, and the Blades smothered the Wheat Kings in the third, allowing them only three shots on goal in a 4-0 win. Carson Bjarnason stopped 32 shots, many of them from point-blank range, in the loss.
"In the second period especially, I thought we had some good zone time and some good shifts, and we lose the period 2-0," said head coach and GM Marty Murray. "That was disappointing and deflating. Sidorov is an elite scorer at the junior level and one guy made us pay tonight.
An early stick infraction proved costly, as the Wheat Kings went to the power play just 35 seconds in. On that Blades' power play, Sidorov took the one-time feed and blasted it home for the first tally of the game.
In the second, Sidorov took the game over. A pick set on Luke Shipley allowed him to bust in up the left side unchallenged, and he snapped one bar-down to make it 2-0.
Sidorov outdid himself on the next goal, carrying into the far corner, he toe-dragged his way right to the front of the net and smoothly stuffed home his 49th of the season for the hat trick.
It seemed the Blades were keen to extend their lead early in the third as they pressed furiously. They even had a penalty shot, but Bjarnason stopped Grayden Siepmann on the attempt.
The Blades did break through late in the third, however. Off the rush, John Babcock crept in and, from the bottom of the left circle, ripped the fourth goal of the game.
The loss is the second in a row for the Wheat Kings, and means they fall 5-3 in the season series to the Blades. Next up for Brandon is a home contest with the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday, March 16.
