Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Memphis, TN - The Sidewinders took a 1-0 lead into the top of the ninth inning and scored six insurance runs in a 7-1 win over the Memphis Redbirds on Friday night at AutoZone Park. The three games to one series win is the third straight series victory for Tucson.
Adam Bass, Casey Daigle, Mike Schultz, Randy Choate and Chad Harville combined to shut Memphis out over the first eight innings before John Rodriguez broke up the shutout with a solo home run against Harville leading off in the ninth inning. Bass, starting for Evan MacLane who was designated for assignment on Thursday, went the first four innings and allowed just one hit. Daigle went two, Schultz went one and Choate 2/3 prior to Harville entering the game for the final inning and a third to nail down his 14th save in 15 opportunities.
Augie Ojeda put the Sidewinders up 1-0 with a RBI single in the fifth before the Sidewinders bats exploded in the ninth. Dave Krynzel led off with a home run and Jeff Salazar had a RBI single to make it 3-0 and Mark Johnson drilled a three run home run to right to make it 6-0. Harville was forced to bat for himself when the Sidewinders batted around and delivered a RBI single to right to cap Tucson's scoring.
The home runs for Krynzel and Johnson were the first of the year for both players.
The Sidewinders head to Nashville on Saturday night to open a four game series with the Nashville Sounds at Herschel Greer Stadium. Right-hander Dustin Nippert (0-1, 2.02) starts for Tucson against left-hander Zach Jackson (5-3, 5.06) for Nashville. First pitch is at 4:00 Tucson time. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 3:45.
