Sidewinders Pick up Second Straight Versus Portland
May 29, 2003 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Sidewinders News Release
The pitchers ruled with the wind blowing in at Tucson Electric Park on Wednesday as the hitters for both teams combined for just 13 hits. Chris Capuano started for the Sidewinders and gave up only 1 unearned in the 1st inning. Capuano was pulled after three innings of strong work to keep his arm fresh for a potential big league start for the Diamondbacks Saturday against the San Diego Padres.
The Tucson bats only produced 5 hits in the game but were able to tie it up in the 5th on a pinch-hit RBI single by Chris Donnels. Donnels now has pinch-hit singles in 2 consecutive games and is hitting .333 with 6 walks coming off of bench. Chad Tracy tripled home the go ahead run in the 6th and was subsequently plated on a Doug DeVore base hit to center.
The Sidewinders bullpen did not allow a run in 6 innings of work that included the first appearance of the season by righty Ricky Bottalico. Erik Sabel (1-2) earned his first win of the season and Jose Valverde threw 1 2/3 innings to earn his team-leading 5th save of the season.
Chris Cervantes (3-3, 3.35) will get the call for Tucson on Thursday at 6:30 pm. He will be facing Portland lefty Mike Bynum (2-1, 3.95).
