Sidewinders Eliminated From Pennant Race With Loss To Sacramento

The Sidewinders scored early when Alberto Callaspo led off the inning with a single. Alex Romero followed by reaching on an error to put runners on second and first. Carlos Quentin flew out and Jamie D'Antona stuck out to make two outs. Carlos Gonzalez knocked in his first two RBI's of the game when he doubled Callaspo and D'Antona to make the score 2-0.

Greg Smith kept the River Cats at bay until the fifth inning. Nick Blasi singled with two outs. Gregorio Petit followed with an RBI double and scored on a Daric Barton single to tie the score at 2-2.

The Sidewinders took back the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Romero singled with one out. Quentin drilled the first pitch he saw for a two-run home run to give the Sidewinders a 4-2 lead. After a D'Antona fly out, Gonzalez hit a solo home run to make the score 5-2.

Sacramento came back in the top of the seventh inning with a three-run home run by Jeremy Brown off reliever Mike Schultz, to tie the score 5-5.

The River Cats took the lead in the top of the eighth when Lou Merloni led off the inning with a single. He moved over on a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch by Shultz. Merloni scored on Danny Putnam's single to make the score 6-5 River Cats.

Smith pitched a strong game for the Sidewinders. He threw six innings allowed two runs both earned, seven hits, walked a batter and struck out four River Cats.
