
Sidewinders continue hot streak, defeat Sacramento, 9-7

Tucson AZ - The Tucson Sidewinders scored two in the bottom of the seventh to take homestand opener 9-7 over the Sacramento Rivercats. The Sidewinders followed a 7-1 road trip with their 10th win in their last 11 games. The Sidewinders went down early 4-1 but came back to tie it in the bottom of the second putting three runs on the board. The Sidewinders added two more in the bottom of the third on RBI singles by both 1B Corey Myers and CF Andy Green to take a 6-4 lead. The River Cats tied it up in the top of the Seventh 7-7 but the Sidewinders responded scoring two in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead for good at 9-7. The win marks Tucson's 12th in their last 14 games against division Rival Sacramento, their 4th in a row overall extending their lead in the Pacific Southern Division to 3 games.
The star for the Sidewinders offense was C Craig Ansman who went 3 for 5 with two runs scored. CF-LF Andy Green went 2 for 4 with three runs and RBI. 2B Keoni DeRenne also went 2 for 4 with two RBI and a walk.
The win was credited to LHP Mark Freed (2-1, 6.05 ERA) who went 1 inning giving up 3 hits, a run, and a walk. Starting pitcher Darren Oliver went 5 innings giving up 9 hits and 4 runs with 6 strikeouts for the Sidewinders.
The series continues tomorrow at Tucson Electric Park with D.A.R.E./G.R.E.A.T. Kids Day with an early start time of 10:00 a.m. The starters are LHP Chris Michalak (1-1, 4.70 ERA) for Tucson and LHP John Rheinecker (2-0, 1.74 ERA) for Sacramento.
