River Cats deck Sidewinders, 16-3

Tucson, AZ - The first of two D.A.R.E./G.R.E.A.T. Kids Days got off to an auspicious start when the Sidewinders jumped out to an early lead, but 16 unanswered runs gave Sacramento a 16-3 victory Tuesday.

DH Conor Jackson began the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI single. LF Andy Green made it a 3-0 lead with a double down the left field line scoring one before coming all the way around to score on a Sacramento throwing error but that when the Sidewinders offense ended and Sacramento's started.

The Rivercats put up runs in 5 consecutive innings with 4 in the 4th, 5 in the 5th, 2 in the 6th, 3 in the 7th, and 2 in the 8th. Sacramento belted out 20 hits and drew 11 walks. In addition to the 16 runners who scored, the Rivercats stranded 15 on the base paths.

RF Matt Watson scored 4 times on 4 hits for Sacramento and also reached on a walk. 3B Bobby Smith also added 4 hits in the game for the Rivercats.

For Tucson, LF Andy Green's 1B and 2B made him the only Sidewinder with a multi-hit game. Green was involved in all of Tucson's scoring by driving in 1 and scoring twice himself. 3B Brian Barden extended his active hitting streak to 10 games with his 1st inning single.

Sidewinders LHP Chris Michalak fell to 1-2 on the season with the loss while Sacramento LHP John Rheinecker improved to 3-0. The team's will square off in another 10:00 a.m. D.A.R.E./G.R.E.A.T. Day on Wednesday when Sidewinders ace RHP Edgar Gonzalez (2-0, 2.64) faces the Rivercats RHP Britt Reames (1-2, 4.05). The game will broadcast live on COOL 1450 AM.
