Sidekicks Acquire Seven Players in Trade & Draft

DALLAS, Texas - The Dallas Sidekicks and the Monterrey Fury executed a seven-player trade Tuesday. The Sidekicks received the rights to defenders Sinisa Alebic and Kiley Couch as well as midfielders Martin Dugas, Martin Nash and Ryan Trout in exchange for defender Martin Hernandez and forward Marco Lopez. The Sidekicks acquired Hernandez and Lopez in the Harrisburg dispersal draft. The Sidekicks also selected forwards Kevin Jeffrey and Mark Rowland in that draft.

Alebic was Monterrey's 3rd selection in the expansion draft. Alebic, 33, has spent the past three seasons with the Milwaukee Wave. The 6-4 defender from Croatia has 92 blocks in 88 games as well as 14 goals and 10 assists.

Couch was Monterrey's seventh expansion pick (ninth overall). Couch, 28, has spent the last two seasons in Cleveland. He was named to the 2002 MISL all-star team and team defender of the year. Couch finished eighth in the league in 2002-03 with 57 blocks. He also recorded 11 goals and 11 assists.

Dugas was the top pick by Monterrey in the expansion draft. Dugas, a 6-2 midfielder, is entering his eighth season. He has 132 goals, 86 assists, and 165 blocks in 235 games.

Martin Nash was Monterrey's fourth selection in the expansion draft. Martin is the brother of Dallas Mavericks' guard and NBA All-Star Steve Nash. Martin is in his seventh A-League season and has two goals and five assists in 15 games with the Montreal Impact this season. He has two seasons of indoor experience and last played indoor for the Detroit Rockers during the 2000-01 season. Martin Nash was the 1998-99 National Professional Soccer League Rookie of the Year after scoring 21 goals and adding 20 assists in 40 games.

The Sidekicks selected Rowland in the fourth round of the Harrisburg dispersal draft. He is in his fourth A-League season and is also with the Montreal Impact. He has 19 goals and 17 assists in 90 A-League games. Rowland spent the 2000-01 season with the Wichita Wings, recording 13 goals, three assists and a dozen blocks in 27 games.

Jeffrey, 28, was the Sidekicks second selection in the Harrisburg dispersal draft. He is with the Richmond Kickers in his fourth A-League season. Jeffrey is tied for seventh in the league with eight goals and tied for second in the league at seven assists through 20 games. He has 49 goals and 26 assists in 112 career games.

KEVIN JEFFREY (F, 5-11, 165, 10/4/74) no indoor experience

Trout was the 14th selection by Monterrey in the expansion draft, 23rd overall. Trout, 24, is in his third season with the A-League Charleston Battery. Trout, a midfielder, has started 19 of 20 games this season and had two goals and three assists. He finished the 2002 season with eight goals and five assists in 31 games.
