Dallas Sidekicks News Release

BALTIMORE - The Dallas Sidekicks were eliminated from the MISL playoffs with a 6-1 loss to the Baltimore Blast in the MISL Semi-final match at the 1st Mariner Arena on Friday.

Patrick Shamu scored the lone goal for the Sidekicks at 1:22 of the third quarter with an assist from Leo Pernia.

The Sidekicks were held scoreless in the first half, as the Blast sailed to a four-goal lead by the end of the first half. Three of Baltimore's goals came in the first quarter from Denison Cabral at 1:06, Lee Tschantret at 4:47 and Allen Eller at 10:41. Tarik Walker tallied one more on a power play at 10:35 of the second to go into halftime leading 4-0. Baltimore was given the man-advantage after Leo Pernia was called for tripping at 10:16.

Ibrahim Kante scored at 15:00 of the third on a controversial restart goal, after the officials put 0.5 seconds back on the clock when a Dallas foul was called right before the third-quarter buzzer sounded.

Baltimore's Neil Gilbert scored the lone goal in the fourth quarter at 9:25 to make the final score 6-1.

The Sidekicks finished this season with the second best turnaround in team history by games & best by winning percentage. Last season Dallas finished 9-27 (.250), tying the 1984-85 inaugural season for the worst record in team history. This season Dallas improved by 12 games finishing 21-15 (.583), posting a 15-3 record at home and a 6-12 road record.

This is the fifth consecutive time since 1999 that Patrick Shamu has been the lone-scorer when Dallas has scored one goal in a game. The event occurred earlier this season in the 1-0 win over Philadelphia on January 25, 2004.

Baltimore advances to play the Milwaukee Wave in the MISL Championship Series. The five-game series will begin on Friday, April 24 at Milwaukee's US Cellular Arena. Training camp for the 2004-05 season is expected to begin the first week of September.
