Dallas Sidekicks News Release
The Dallas Sidekicks (22-15) travel to play the Baltimore Blast (25-11) in a one-game MISL Semifinal at 1st Mariner Arena Friday April 16 at 6:35 p.m. CT. This will be Baltimore's first playoff game after getting a bye to the semifinal as the Eastern Division Champion and second seed in the postseason. The Sidekicks advanced with a 7-4 come from behind win over the Cleveland Force (15-22) at Reunion Arena Saturday April 10. The winner will play in the MISL Championship Series against the victor of the Kansas City Comets and Milwaukee Wave.
The Blast and Sidekicks split the season series 2-2, with the home team winning all four contests. The goal count was even at 19 and every contest was a one-goal game. Baltimore won 3-2 on October 24 and 4-3 on January 10. Both Dallas victories were 7-6 overtime triumphs, first on December 27 and then the final meeting of the season on January 24. Since the final meeting in Dallas January 24, Baltimore has gone 9-5 and the Sidekicks are 9-6.
Scott Hileman was in goal for the Blast in the last three games of the season series, going 1-2 while stopping 40 of 57 shots and finishing with a 5.14 gaa. It was almost the same as his 5.09 gaa for the season. Karim Moumban played in the 3-2 Blast victory October 24. D.J. Horvath has not played against Baltimore since joining the Sidekicks. He went 1-1 with a 6.04 gaa in two games against the Blast while in Kansas City. His lone start against Baltimore resulted in a 7-6 overtime win at 1st Mariner Arena December 13. It was the only win for the Comets in four meetings against the Blast this season.
Ricardinho led the Dallas offense with 4 goals and 2 assists. He had two goals and two assists in the January 24 win in Dallas. Ricardinho also scored the overtime game-winner December 27 on a top of the D restart. Martin Nash and David Doyle each had 2 goals and 2 assists in the series. Doyle had a point in each game. Nash's high game was two assists in the January 24 game. All four of Beau Brown's points came on assists. Kiley Couch led Dallas defenders with 9 blocks, followed by Frank Filo with 7.
The Dallas Sidekicks are back in the playoffs after a one-year absence. It is the 16th time in 19 seasons the Sidekicks have made the postseason, advancing to eight finals and winning four championships (1987, 1993, 1998, 2001). Dallas is 45-38 (.542) all-time in the playoffs with a 31-12 (.721) home record and 14-26 (.350) road record. The Sidekicks are 8-3 (.727) in the playoffs under Tatu and a perfect 6-0 at home. They are 3-0 in the semifinal round under Tatu, but this is the first time the Sidekicks haven't had home field for that round.
This is the Sidekicks 12th trip to the league semifinal. The Sidekicks are 7-4 in that round and have been to the finals eight times. (In 1998, the WISL championship was the only postseason round). The Sidekicks advanced to the finals via the semifinal round in 1987, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1999, 2000, and 2001. Conversely, Dallas failed to advance in 1989, 1990, 1995, and 1996. The Sidekicks are 3-0 in the semifinal round under Tatu and advanced to the finals in all four playoff appearances with him as head coach. Something will have to give though since the Sidekicks are 0-2 in a single-game playoff format on the road.
Dallas finished 6-12 on the road this season, but went 3-3 in the final six road games, including a 6-5 come from behind double overtime win at Philadelphia March 28.

GETTING IN THE PLAYOFFS: Dallas claimed the Western Division Championship and third seed in the MISL Playoffs.
